Tulips on Paper - Polymer photogravure print - Edition 2021This photograph " Tulips on Paper " and I have a long history together. I made this picture one day when I was at home with my daughter Abigail who was in 1st grade at the time. My wife Kathleen had volunteered to chair the committee for the school auction this year and she received this bouquet of tulips as a thank you. Meanwhile, I am at home itching to make a new photograph so I tore open a paper shopping bag a tossed the tulips down on the bag.

A best friend moved away a few years back and when she was in Portland this week she stopped by to introduce me to her new partner

I wanted it to feel like the bedroom that it was with window light background of doors and curtains

Gum over platinum was a big thing back in the day and a few folks were still making them when I made this one

I am able to make your portrait object using traditional black and white film and an historic printmaking process called Photogravure

This hand-pulled photogravure print is made with Charbonnel carbon black and raw sepia ink

I simply could not resist these trees I noticed in a park in Copenhagen

When I do find myself making a still life photograph with botanicals it is usually a result of my overwhelming desire to make work and a casual volunteer showing up in my view

Or maybe it is the geometric forms carved out of otherwise chaotic landscapes
